Use our interactive map to study the impact of the short term plans that the planners and developers have for Northampton town. Hold your mouse over each of the markers to display details about a proposed or in-progress development. You can drag the map by holding down your mouse button. You can zoom into the map using the + and - controls to take a really close look at the affected areas. Finally, you can see satellite images of the areas by selecting the ‘satellite’ or ‘hybrid’ options. The grey line represents the approximate line of the so-called North West Orbital By-pass. You will see from this map how the road is certainly not a bypass, since it encourages traffic into the west of Northampton from junction 15a of the M1, but it actually terminates at its northern end before it reaches any main road. Thus it can be seen that these roads, which are made up of the Cross Valley Link Road, Sandy Relief Road and Sandy Lane Improvement North are purely to service the almost 10,000 houses that are currently clamouring for planning permission. The additional traffic from the new houses will more than fill these single carriageway roads and therefore their construction will do nothing to alleviate Northampton’s present traffic problems.
